Caregiver Education Series
Join Alzheimer's Texas for this series of four interactive workshops designed to empower caregivers with tools, techniques, and knowledge to provide expert care for loved ones with dementia. Based on methods pioneered by dementia care experts Teepa Snow and Naomi Feil and presented by Stephen Catoe, Certified PAC Trainer, and Certified Validation Worker.
The Caregiver Education Series will be held at the Round Rock Public Library (216 E. Main St, Round Rock, TX 78664) from 12:00 am -2:00 p.m. with a light lunch provided. As with all of our services, there is no charge to attend. Participants can come to one or all of the classes they choose.
Tuesday, August 14 - Part one: "Normal Aging/Not Normal Aging"
- Compare/contrast “normal” aging vs. “not normal” aging related to various cognitive functions while also learning to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur.
- Learn how to do “with” and not “to” and learn how to develop observational skills necessary to address unmet emotional and physical needs.
- Develop an understanding of stages of dementia and learn strategies to facilitate positive, supportive communication between caregiver and care receiver.
- Learn a method of communicating with disoriented older adults that is built on an empathetic attitude and a holistic view of individuals that helps reduce stress, enhance dignity, and increase happiness.
